

Alvin Ray “Shorty” Solomon, Sr. peacefully left this world to join his maker on Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was born in Mason, Texas on January 21, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary, a sister Fadia Mae Welch, a brother Bob Solomon and a grandson Ty Solomon.
Shorty was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Evelyn; brother R.C.; two sons, Shorty (Patti) Solomon, Jr.; Mike (Brooke) Solomon; and one daughter Margaret (Mark) Story. Six Grandchildren: Dusty (Crystal) Solomon; Meagan (PeeWee) Segovia; Mark Story II; Alan (Jenny) Story; Mika Solomon and Mackenzie Bryce. Four Great-Grandchildren: Victoria Jones, Talan Story, Brenden Solomon and Abigail Solomon.
After growing up in Big Wells, Texas Shorty served in the US Navy. In 1952, he moved to South Texas, married and worked for Mobil Oil. He then changed occupations and started farming and ranching. The diversity ranged from raising hogs to dairy farming. After 18 years with the dairy he branched out to beef cattle including cow/calf operations and feeder calves. Shorty also managed other ranches in Brooks Co. as well as his own in his last years.
Pallbearers are Phillip Boerjan, Timothy Boerjan, David Siemonsma, Richard Siemonsma, Richard Solomon, and Will Paul “Trey” Wright III.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Coarse, Charles Gearhart, Lawrence Miller Jr., August Timmerman, and Will Paul Wright, Jr.
The family would also like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff who helped in keeping him comfortable, and to the many friends who held him in their prayers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the memory of Shorty to the Alzheimer’s, Cancer, or Heart Foundations.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 13, 2010 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park in Falfurrias, TX.
