

Berta Alvarez, 84, left her earthly home on Monday, November 24, 2014. On that day she arrived at the heavenly home to live eternally with God her Father, Jesus Christ her Savior, and the Holy Spirit her Comforter. As she entered heaven she was also welcomed by her parents, Jose Juan and Josefa Alvarez; her, brother Roberto Alvarez; her sisters, Olivia Alvarez, Graciellita Alvarez and Graciela Stanbridge. Berta is survived by her five children, who next to Jesus Christ were the joy of her life, Sylvia (Benjamin) Morales of Hebbronville, Noela Benavides of San Antonio, Leticia Flores of Hebbronville, Cynthia (Jesus) Vela of San Antonio and Ray (Susan) Flores of Vashon Island, Washington. Grandma Birdie also leaves behind ten grandchildren, John Eric Morales, Benjamin Morales, Jr., Monica Maestas, Brian Michael Benavides, Guy Angelo Benavides, Alexis Noelie Benavides, Claudia Prewitt, Jennifer Diggs, Joshua Ray Flores, and Derek James Flores. Surviving siblings include Gloria Driver, Justo (Elida) Alvarez, Maria del Carmen (Adrian) Perez, Margarita (Van) Loomis, Alicia Ramirez and her sister-in-law Carmen Alvarez. How she loved her siblings!
Berta's children are forever grateful for the Christian testimony that she gave. They will never forget her undying faith in a miracle-working God. Her sacrifices to raise five children as a single parent are truly to be admired. Also very special were her lovely face and beautiful smile.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Holy Rosary prayed at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Eric Morales, Benjamin Morales, Jr., Brian Michael Benavides, Xavier Aaron Rodriguez, Antonio Michael Lee Diggs, and James Donald Driver, Jr.
