Cecilia G. Galindo

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Cecilia Galindo, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many. On April 3, 2026, our beautiful mother began her eternal journey; joyfully walking into the welcoming arms of those who loved her and have been waiting for her. She is happy, healthy and whole again, sheltering beneath God’s wings and surrounded by those who welcomed her home. We deeply mourn her loss, but we faithfully trust that mom now joins her parents, siblings, husband, son and daughter-in-law, son-in-law and two nieces who preceded her passing.

Cecilia is survived by her daughters (Yolanda Galindo of San Antonio, TX and Berta Longoria of Corpus Christi, TX), 5 grandchildren (Victoria Garza, Sara Garza Fuhrken, Oscar Omar Galindo, Christina Galindo Cantu, Michael Galindo), 8 great-grandchildren (Audrey Galindo, Krysta Galindo, Gabriel Cantu, Bella Cantu, DeMarco Cantu, Michael Galindo, Jr. Cecilia Grace Galindo, Cooper James Fuhrken) and many other family and friends.

Born on April 1,1933 to Cecilio and Andrea Gonzales, Cecilia graced this world for 93 years and 2 days. Her life was marked by love, strength and an unwavering dedication to family and to her church. She was a Catholic Daughter, taught CCD, and was always present to help with church duties. Whether decorating the church for the different seasons or serving food in the parish hall, people could always count on her to be a helper. In addition to being an active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, she was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, The Red Hat Society and the Elevian Study Club. Mom was somewhat of a social butterfly and she loved getting together with her female friends at these club meetings or going on outings to King’s Inn for a delicious seafood meal. Her life was enriched by these relationships and her joy could be heard as she described her connections at church or with her friends.

Mom was also very creative. In her younger years, she learned how to paint using oils. She had exceptional skills with needle and thread. And in her later years while living in San Antonio, she continued this spirit of learning. She learned how to make jewelry, paint in watercolor and make cards using rubber stamps. During Covid, so many people were bored, but mom and I were safely tucked away, crafting. She was also a superb cook and her children and grandchildren each have special and unique memories of their favorite foods—from the best pancakes ever to her delicious enchiladas, chicken and rice, calabaza with pork and so much more.

How does one describe a person in only a few simple words when all human beings are complicated? None of us is ever just a one dimensional person. And none of us are perfect people. The true measure of any human being is how deeply they have loved and how faithful they have been to living a life of merciful action, a life filled with hope in a God who saves and a life rich in simple joys and honest gratitude for undeserved blessings. That is the best way to describe our mother. She was a simple and quiet woman, but she walked in beauty and always carried herself with dignity and seamless elegance. Mom had a rich and happy life mingled with the realities of being human. We all suffer and we all lose people we love. But even through the hardest moments in her life, mom persevered with the graciousness and beauty for which she is well-known. As a young woman, she endured the agony of tragically losing her sister. Later, she lost all of her siblings and parents, leaving her the last one standing. I always marveled over how she continued to lean into LIFE even after tragically losing a son. And mom also weathered the physical demands of caring for her husband for many years. Each of us have a purpose in life; mom’s purpose was one of service and presence. Her choices in life were entirely driven by her love of family. When dad needed daily care, it was our mother who faithfully cared for him. Mom was 85 when dad died. It was her grit, determination, strength of character and deep love for dad that helped carry a woman of advanced age through the hardest days of caregiving. She was a good wife, mother and friend. As proclaimed in The Book of Proverbs, “A perfect wife, who can find her. She is far beyond the price of pearls. Her husband’s heart has confidence in her. From her, he will derive no little profit. She is clothed in strength and dignity. She can laugh at the days to come. Many women have done admirable things, but you surpass them all.”

In her final months of life, dementia and the indignities of aging claimed mom’s better self, but on her good days, there were always the glimmers of the strong and good-hearted woman known to all who loved her. And now, a new journey begins. Thank you, mom, for everything—your grace, generosity of spirit, servant heart, your love for us. We love you and will forever carry you tenderly in our hearts, aspiring to live and love as you and dad modeled for us. Go with the angels. Rest in peace.

The family wishes to thank Remarkable Hospice Care of San Antonio for their attentive support during the last few months of mom’s life. We are especially grateful to Bethany and Gracie, two fine nurses who calmed our fears and were always ready to help. Thanks also to Shea, mom’s CNA, for the tender and dignified way she cared for mom’s basic hygiene needs and for the sweet and loving company that she provided. Thank you to Sherry, mom’s private caregiver, for the joy and the laughter shared with mom. Special thanks to my dearest friends who dropped out of their own lives to lend their support on a daily basis—Mary and Carolyn—you are loved.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Omar Galindo, Michael Galindo, Victor Cantu, Tyler Fuhrken, Agustin Olivarez, and Gabriel Cantu. Honorary Pallbearers are Cooper James Fuhrken, Michael Galindo, Jr., and Demarco Cantu.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias, with a Rosary to be prayed at 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Premont. Services will conclude with Burial at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
