Dora Vela has completed her work here on Earth and has gone home to be with the Lord after passing away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at her home in Falfurrias, Texas. She was born on June 11, 1953, to Guadalupe Vela and Dora Mendez Vela in Falfurrias and was a blessing to her family for 72 years. Dora worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a caregiver for many children.
Dora was a faithful woman of God. She loved reading her bible and participating in bible study. She treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and when she traveled with her daughter, especially trips to Starbucks to order her favorite Strawberry Crème Frappuccino with whipped cream. Dora also enjoyed painting, knitting, eating watermelon or sweets, and cruising in town while enjoying some ice cream. Her character was like no other; she was a jokester and loved to clown around. You would also probably never find her without her makeup on and ready to take a picture. She loved being glamorous and was even known to her neighbors and friends as “Dorita la más Bonita de la Parrita”.
Dora is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Emede Vela, and the father of her children, Luis R. Saldivar.
She is survived by her children, Jose Martin Jasso of Monahans, Texas, Micaela (Juan DeLeon Jr.) of Rosenberg, Texas, Guadalupe V. Saldivar and Luis M. (Victoria) Saldivar both of Falfurrias; stepchildren, Luis Saldivar Jr., Linda Saldivar, Rey Saldivar, Marylou Saldivar and Michael Saldivar; brothers, Guadalupe Vela, Rudy Vela, Alejandro Vela, Arturo Vela and Rey Vela all of Falfurrias; sisters, Cruz Vela, Esperanza “Hope” (Joe) Flores, and Maria L. Quiroz all of Falfurrias; many grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Vela Family Cemetery in La Parrita.
