Elida Perez entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at her residence in Falfurrias, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Elida was born on July 31, 1945 to Ignacio Cantu and Maria Ortiz in Falfurrias. She was blessed with 74 years of life and in that time, she made many beautiful memories that her family can reminisce upon for years to come. Elida dedicated over 30 years of her life to a career with Brooks County ISD where she worked in the cafeteria.
Elida was a devoted, loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She had a heart like no other and will always be remembered for her selfless ways. She was a good Christian person who always sought out the good in everyone and was always willing to help in any way possible. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure.
Elida had a saying that she told everyone she met and that her family will always remember, “God loves you and so do I.”
Although no longer here on earth, Elida was reunited with in Heaven with her son, Rigoberto “Rigo” Walker Perez; her parents; her step-mom whom welcomed her into the family with open arms, Grandma Sara Cantu and brothers, Jesus Sandoval, Benito Ortiz, Jr. and Humberto Cantu.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of over 59 years, Ruben Perez of Falfurrias; daughter, Rosario “Rosie” (Robert) Pena of Premont, Texas; sons, Ruben Perez, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Oscar (Jenny) Rene Perez of New Boston, Texas and Roque (Jennifer) Rafael Perez of Alexander, Arkansas; brothers, Servando Cantu, Ignacio Cantu, Esteban Cantu, Freddy Cantu, Ramiro Sandoval, Carlos Sandoval and Gerardo Sandoval; sisters, Antonia “Tonia” Montelongo, Juana Zuniga, Margarita Barajas, Linda Allen, Nora Rodriguez, Alma Benavides and Selina Norvell; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; special niece, Melissa Ramirez; special nephew, Michael Barajas and all her nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A special thank you to Desiree Forest, Elida's granddaughter, for always being by Elida's side with love and care.
Pallbearers will be Joe Barajas, Michael Barajas, Michael Carvajal, Niko Munoz, O.J. Perez, Matthew Perez and Tommy Perez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Estevan Cantu and Tere P. Reyes.
