

Fidel Vela Garza passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026, at a hospital in Alice, Texas, at the age of 79. He was born on February 25, 1947, in Hebbronville, Texas, to Fidel Garza and Cecilia Vela Garza. Fidel dedicated many years of his life to serving others as a Substance Abuse Counselor, offering guidance, compassion, and support to those in need.
Fidel had a deep love for music and found great joy in singing and playing the guitar. He was a man who treasured life’s simple pleasures, from watching his favorite television programs to spending quiet moments with his beloved dogs. Above all, Fidel’s greatest joy was his family. He held a deep and unconditional love for his children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fidel Garza; mother, Cecilia V. Mora; grandson, Michael Andrew Lopez; brothers, Van Elkins, Jose Luis Garza, and Romeo Garza; and his sister, Ofilia Garza Soliz.
Fidel leaves behind his son, Fidel Gerardo (Lori) Garza of Saint Joseph, Missouri; daughters, Lisa (Benny) Torres of Alice, Belinda Espinosa of Corpus Christi, Texas, Teresa (Jesse) Sanchez of Corpus Christi, and DeAndra M. Garza of Falfurrias; brother, Raul Garza Sr. of Falfurrias; 13 grandchildren with one on the way; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral Outside of Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m.
