Genoveva Barrera Barrera Leach

Genoveva Barrera Leach, 94, passed away Monday April 4, 2011 at her residence in Premont, TX. Mrs. Leach was born on September 13, 1916 to Horacio F. Barrera and Sofia Garcia Barrera in Cibolo Ranch, Duval County, and delivered by grandmother Maria Virginia Salinas Garcia. She was a descendant of Jose Vasquez Borrego, Rancho De Dolores, 1750. She graduated from Premont High School at age 16 and from Texas A&I in 1941. She taught at Cibolo Ranch, La Copita, and Premont Schools. She was a Charter member of St. Theresa’s Women’s Club, past member of the Elevian Club, avid Bird Watcher, reader, genealogist, and a local historian. Mrs Leach is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Michael Leach, brothers Homero, Honorato (Lita), Heberto, and Horacio Barrera. She is survived by her son John Michael II (Bett) Leach of Oyster Creek, TX, three daughters Mary Virginia L. Leyendecker of Premont, TX, Cecilia Leach (Berry) Hodges of Crosby, TX and Elizabeth Sofia Leach of Premont, TX, granddaughter Mary Virginia Leyendecker, cousin Rebecca Garcia Garcia of San Diego, TX, in-laws Hilda P. Barrera of Premont, TX, Rebeca C. Barrera of Concepcion, TX, Miriam Leach Lee of Dallas, TX and Patsy Barrera of Freer, TX, David (Helen) Leach of Michigan, and extended family. Her insight and family stories will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Lozano and Staff, Father John Ouellette, and Legacy Home Health.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday April 8, 2011 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias, TX, with visitation starting at 2:00 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 9, 2011 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Premont, TX.

Burial will follow at the Premont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Berry Hodges, Homer Barrera, Hector Barrera, Emede Garcia, Carlos Garcia, Ricky Garcia, Gus T. Canales, Hunter Hornsby, George Johnson, Dan Leach, and Mike Farmer.
