Jose “Pepe” G. Mata entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 19, 2019 at his residence in Brazoria, Texas at the age of 67 as his loving family surrounded him. He was born on August 16, 1951 to Martin Mata, Sr. and Celia Cruz Mata in Premont, Texas. Jose married the love of his life, Flora Chavera on July 19, 1969 and together they had three children.
Pepe worked for many years as a Plumber and Insulator building many friendships with his community members throughout this time. He loved helping people out in any way he could and was a “jack of all trades.” Pepe loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid lover of racecars and driving them. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, loved horses and enjoyed attending horse races.
He is preceded in death by his father, Martin Mata, Sr. and brother, Martin Mata, Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of over 50 years, Flora C. Mata of Brazoria; son, Jose Ricardo (Elontria) Mata of West Columbia, Texas; daughters, Belinda Ann Mata of Brazoria and Brenda (Rafael) Mata Acuña of Angleton, Texas; mother, Celia Cruz Mata of Brazoria; brothers, Hipolito (Cindi) Mata of Lake Jackson, Texas, Romeo (Joanne) Mata of Sweeny, Texas, Leovardo (Kim) Mata of Brazoria and Roy (Nina) Mata of Freeport, Texas; sisters, Gloria (Daniel) Ramirez of Bay City, Texas, Dalia Senior of Brazoria and Otilia Mata of Manvel, Texas; seven grandchildren, Malina Nikkole Mata, Jayce Ricardo Mata, Jayden James Mata, Jazlynn Sherae Mata, Rafael Reyes Acuña, Nyla Yazmeen Acuña and Bella Aliyah Acuña and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Boy Mata, Norberto Garcia, Oscar Mata, Sam Soria, Fernando P. Felan and George Carrales.
Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 8:00 a.m. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Premont with services to conclude with a burial at the Premont Cemetery.
