

Lucinda Maria Perez, Vda. De Sendejo, 96, lately residing at Country Village Care in Angleton, Texas, died peacefully at 7AM, July 14, 2014 at Houston Hospice after a short stay at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was born to Maximo Perez Garcia and his wife, Alicia de la Garza Gutierrez on March 26, 1918 in Falfurrias, Texas and was baptized by P. Alvarez at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rectory on December 22 that year. Her godparents were her aunt and uncle – Olivia and Teodoro Perez. Her confirmation sponsor was Ana Guerra Barrera, wife of Rufino Garcia, Jr. She graduated from Falfurrias High School in the class of 1935. She married Serapio Lealdo Sendejo from San Diego, Texas on December 25, 1936 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they lived with her parents while he earned a teaching certificate at Texas A&I, Kingsville. After their son Xavier was born, her husband enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned to Laredo, Texas and they moved there. Later, they moved to San Diego, TX where their son Carlos Jaime (Jimmy) was born in 1941. Her husband was transferred to Washington, D.C. and would come home on leave. Their daughter, Rosa Veronica (Mimi) was born in 1945 in San Diego, TX. Lucinda was a lay teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School and in later years, a teacher’s aide at Lasater School before her retirement. She was active at Sacred Heart Church and was an organist, lector, and extra-ordinary minister. She was also a Catholic Daughter. She was a member of Canary Island Descendants Association because her father was a descendant of the founders of ‘La Villita’ or San Fernando de Bexar (now San Antonio). She dearly loved reading articles about the Roman Catholic – church and religion. She prayed the rosary and other prayers daily. She loved spending time with children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, her son—Jimmy, her brother, Fidel and more recently her sister—Alicia (Jose Guerra, d.) She is survived by her son Xavier (Marianne, d.) and their children: Marcel, Lucinda, Helen (Chris Kneupper), Theresa (Eric Murray), and Margaret. Also by Jimmy’s sons: Jay Dolina and Corey Dolina (Andrea). And , finally, by her daughter, Rose Matlock (Richard) and their children: Cindy Wilson, Leslie (Will Weaver), and Greg Matlock, Maria Eugenie ‘Jenny’ , Jon (Angela), Max (Kari), Michael (Mary), James (Jamie), Megan Markey (Tobias) and many great –grandchildren and other relatives.
