Maria Elena Davila completed her earthly journey on Monday, February 10, 2025, in Alice, Texas, at the age of 88. She was born on December 19, 1936, to Vicente Lopez and Corina Gonzalez Lopez in Falfurrias, Texas. Elena had many passions, but her favorite was dancing, and it was how she met the love of her life, Ramiro Davila. He waited his turn to dance with her and then never let her go. They fell in love, married and together they raised four children.
She loved to sing alongside Ramiro as he played the accordion, showcasing her amazing singing talent. One of her favorite times of the year was Mother’s Day. She would serenade and honor the neighborhood moms with her rendition of “Las Mananitas” in the wee hours of the morning. The musical group included Ramiro on the accordion, Erasmo and Israel on guitars and her sister Eva singing vocals.
Elena was a faithful servant of the Lord, having been a part of the Cursillo movement, which was sponsored by Father Banks for the catholic community. She was attending Texas A&I University for a degree in elementary education and due to an unforeseen illness, lacked one semester to finish.
She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also an amazing member of her community, who had a passion for helping others.
She served as a broadcaster for the local radio station KPSO for many years, worked as a saleswoman for Lacks, served as a teacher's aide, and worked with Community Action. Additionally, her writing skills were exceptional, she was frequently asked to write political speeches for politicians throughout Texas.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents and her siblings, Elia, Lalo, Erasmo and Eva.
She leaves behind to carry on her legacy her husband, Ramiro Davila of Premont, Texas; sons, Dino Davila of Premont and Daniel (Illeana) Davila of Falfurrias; daughters, Debbie (Joe Y.) Garza of Alice and Delizza Davila of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Linda (Benny) Deluna of Rockport, Texas and Erica Lopez of Corpus Christi, Texas, eight grandchildren, Heaven Garza, Debra Garza, Liza (Kevin) Waddell, Sonya (Ruben) Gonzalez, Krystal (Isais) Ordaz, Dino Davila Jr., Aubrey Nicole Davila and Samantha Davila; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at The Drake Unit of the Meridian Care Center in Alice for their exceptional care and support of Elena. Elena was the first resident when the facility opened seven years ago, and the family has always felt confident that she was well cared for by her medical team.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with a private family viewing at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:15 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias and services will conclude with Burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
