It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria "Mary" Villarreal, who gained her wings on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Houston Methodist West Hospital in Katy, Texas. Surrounded by her loving family, she departed peacefully and entered the golden gates of heaven.
Mom was born on March 30, 1937, in Falfurrias, Texas. From her earliest days, she displayed a gentle strength and a generous spirit that would define her throughout her life. She dedicated herself to Jesus Christ, her family, and friends. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers she loved so much. Given any flower, she could add her personal touch …a ribbon here and there, and a breath-taking arrangement blossomed.
Her warmth and kindness extended beyond our home. Mom was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or share words of encouragement. Her friendships were cherished and lifelong, built upon mutual respect and genuine care. If anyone needed advice or assistance with decorating, organizing, or planning an event and most of all with making floral arrangements, mom was ready to take the helm. From a very early age, she used these Godly gifts to assist family and friends. To mom, this was not work but extreme pleasure.
Mom was preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Garza, loving husband, Guadalupe Villarreal, daughter, Norma Linda Moreno, son-in-law, Roy Moreno, and granddaughter, Jeanna M. Hill.
Mom was married to our beloved father, Guadalupe Villarreal, for over 50 years. She was the proud mother of a son, Roel Villarreal (Vicki), daughters, Yomeida V. Martinez (George) and Yolanda V. Burdett (Robert), the loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Mom was also survived by her loving sister, Loretta Cabrera, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family meant everything to her, and she found her greatest joy in the company of those she loved.
She lived a long, blessed life, yet faced many hardships and burdens that strengthen her faith along the way. Her wisdom, resilience, courage, and perseverance inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether through her encouraging advice or her comforting embrace, she touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of love. To her children, she was the rock of the family and source of unwavering love and support. Mom will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to guide and inspire us every day. She fought the good fight, finished the race with dignity, and kept the faith. Rest in peace, Mom. You will always be in our hearts.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias on Saturday, November 15, 2025, beginning with Visitation at 9:00 a.m. followed by Celebration of Life service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
