Mario Vela entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 25, 2022 at a hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 74. He was born on June 4, 1948 to Jesus Vela and Juanita Casas Vela in Falfurrias, Texas. Mario was a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and a proud Veteran. Before retirement, Mario dedicated over 20 years of service to the Texas Migrant Program where he was a Bus Driver for many children who he adored. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He loved his wife and children deeply and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world. He cherished his fur babies and was a lover of all things sweet, especially his pan dulce, empanadas and bananas. His favorite pastime was watching movies on the Hallmark channel and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents; daughter, Melissa Longoria and two brothers, Omar and Jesus Vela.
He is survived by his wife Susana Vela of Falfurrias; three daughters, Victoria (Javier) Villafana of San Antonio, Texas, Jessica (Joseph Garcia) Vela of Falfurrias and Jennifer Renee (Matias) Patino of San Benito, Texas; brother, Rene Vela of Premont, Texas; sisters, Gloria Galvan of Corpus Christi, Olga (Earl) Garcia of Falfurrias and Alicia (Guadalupe) Garcia of Kingsville, Texas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his dog, Sparky and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m.
