Maria “Marylou” DeLourdes Garza, affectionately known to many as “Lulu,” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the age of 66. After a brave three-year battle with breast cancer, she passed away at a hospital in Kingsville, Texas, and is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Ramon Garza, her parents, Manuel Alvarez Sr. and Yolanda Elizondo, and her sister, Yolanda Chapa.
Marylou was born on November 12, 1958, in Corpus Christi, Texas. From a young age, she carried qualities that defined every part of her life. Faith, compassion, and a heart full of love and strength.
For over 32 years, Marylou dedicated herself to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Falfurrias Nursing and Rehab. Her gentle hands and kind heart brought comfort to countless residents and their families. She will always be remembered for her hard work, her selflessness, and the genuine warmth she showed to everyone she met.
Marylou found joy in life’s simple blessings. She was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and loved listening to her favorite artist, Elton John. Her home was often filled with the sweet aroma of her famous pan de polvo cookies, a treat that brought smiles to those she loved.
Above all, her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family. Whether sharing laughter around the table with her siblings and children, watching her grandchildren play, or celebrating special moments together, Marylou treasured every second.
She was the heart of her family, their rock, their comfort, and their guiding light. Her love will forever remain a part of them, carried on through the lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the endless warmth she shared.
She is survived by her sons, Jacob (Christina) Garza of Kingsville, Texas and Joseph (Letty) Garza of Falfurrias; daughters, Lori (Sonny) Solis and Natalie (Jerry) Garcia, both of Falfurrias; brothers, Manuel Alvarez Jr. and David (Maxine) Alvarez both of Corpus Christi; sisters, Evelia (Luis) Landa, Irma Alvarez, Dina (Letty) Alvarez, Angie (Raymond) Perez, Diana (Raul) Rios, and Delia Martinez Madrigal all of Corpus Christi; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Garza, Joseph Garza, Joseph Garza Jr., Sonny Solis, Jason Solis, and Jerry Garcia Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Garcia, Aiden Garza, and Jayden Garcia.
