Rafael Vela

Rafael Vela, 61, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his residence in Falfurrias, Texas. Rafael (Ralph as he was better known) was born September 27, 1959 in Falfurrias to Alejandro and Guadalupe Garza Vela. Ralph dedicated 26 years of service with the First National Bank in Falfurrias where he held the Vice President/ Loan Officer position until his retirement. He began working at the bank on April 22, 1991.

He loved to fish, listen to music, cook, bake, his gardening and loved sitting outside watching and feeding his birds. He loved spending time with his kids and his grandkids. He was over the moon when he found out that Chris was going to be daddy. Wherever he was with his son-in-law Sammy, he'd always say "I wonder Sam" what about this... or he'd love to call Sunette and her sisters "silly ninnies" when they'd do something that would make him laugh. Those are memories that will be cherished forever.

Ralph will always be known as a man who never met a stranger and who was always willing to give a helping hand whether it was at work or on his off time. He never knew how to say no and was always willing to help where he could. Ralph made many friends and will be missed dearly by all. In his famous words "l'll see you later".

Rafael was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Aradelia Velia and brother, Irineo Diaz.

He is survived by his two sons, Raphael Antonio Dahmian (Ashley) Vela of Kingsville, Texas and Christopher Dyllan (Malerie) Vela of Campwood, Texas; daughter, Sonia Lysette (Samuel) Garza of Kingsville; brother, Alberto (Mari) Diaz of Alamogordo, NM; sister, Rosa Gonzalez of Falfurrias; his former, wife Elisa Gonzalez; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin a 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with a Rosary being recited at 8:30 a.m.. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will conclude with Burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias.
