Raul M. Garza, affectionately known to his family as Dad or Popo, entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at a hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 78. He was born on May 20, 1948, to Roberto Garza and Amelia Marines Garza in Falfurrias, Texas. Raul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. Raul worked as a truck driver for many years. He also lived the life of a true cowboy and rancher. He understood the value of hard work and instilled that same value in his children at an early age.
Dad worked long days and did what was needed to provide for his family. He loved his land and livestock and could spend hours out there. His land didn’t just shape his life; it shaped his character. It made him stronger, steady, and deeply rooted in what mattered most.
He is one of the strongest people we have ever known. Not just physically strong but also strong in spirit. He was courageous in the face of life’s big and small challenges and when things got tough, Dad never backed down. He fought and kept going. He showed us what it means to be resilient and to stand tall when the odds are against you.
Dad’s strength wasn’t the only thing that defined him. He was a selfless man and gave his time, energy, and heart to others without any return expectations. If you needed him, he was always there.
He was a man of deep faith, a follower of Jesus Christ who believed, trusted, and lived his life with quiet devotion. He spoke of his faith often and carried his faith with him every day, guiding him to treat others as he wanted to be treated.
Although he was tough, he had a light side too. He was a jokester, always ready with a laugh, a story, or something to make you smile. He had a way of bringing joy and laughter to a room, even when things felt heavy. He was smart and wise in ways that didn’t always come from books, but from his experiences, from living life fully and from lessons he learned along the way. He taught us lessons that will stay with us forever - lessons about hard work, love, and never giving up.
Dad was tough but he was also a man full of heart and love, strength, courage, faith, laughter, and that is what we will carry with us forever. He may be gone from our sight, but everything he stood for will live within us. Dad, we love you always.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister and is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Perkins, Avelino DeLeon, Edgar Gonzalez, Edgar Raul Gonzalez, Isaiah Saul Gonzalez, and Fabian Cardoza.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias. Private Burial will be held at a later time.
