

ONE COWBOY RIDES AWAY: Roberto R. Garza, 81, formally of Mirando City, Texas, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at his residence in Alice, Texas surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on December 1, 1929 to Francisco Garza and Jacoba Rodriguez Garza in Falfurrias, Texas. Roberto worked as a Driller for Killiam & Hurd for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved to fish, garden, collect elephant paraphernalia, watch western movies especially those of John Wayne and tend to his favorite orange tree. He instilled in his children and grandchildren that education was very important and that to receive respect you had to give it. Roberto’s children knew he meant business just by the sound of his whistle and that they would not get a hold of the candy he always kept hidden. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Francisco Garza, sister Olga R. Hernandez and brother Oscar Garza. He is survived by his wife Elva Solis Garza of Alice, Texas, three sons Juan Roberto (Delia) Garza of Uvalde, Texas, Oscar (Regina) Garza of Alice, Texas and Pedro N. Garza of Alice, Texas, five daughters Nelda (Abel) Flores of Bloomington, Texas, Norma (Roberto D. Sr.) Davila of Victoria, Texas, Martha G. (A.J. Sr.) Medina of Laredo, Texas, Yolanda G. (Jesus M. Sr.) Ramirez of Alice, Texas and Janie (Jose) Sanchez of Alice, Texas, one sister Herminia Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, 34 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a special cousin Mary Ann Rodriguez of Mirando City, Texas. He will always be remembered as a great man who was a very hard worker who would go above and beyond for his family. They are so proud of him and are going to miss him dearly.
Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Hebbronville with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville, Texas. Burial will follow at the Magnolia Cemetery in Mirando City, Texas.
Pallbearers will be: Abel Flores III, Joseph R. Molina, Jesus M. Ramirez Jr., Roberto Davila III, Joe Sanchez Jr., Juan Roberto Garza Jr., Pedro N. Garza Jr. and Manuel A. Mendoza. Honorary Pallbearers will be: A.J. Medina Jr., Jaime V. Ramirez, Adan Garza, Robert Anthony Garza, Hector Raul Garza, Oscar Garza Jr. and Marcos A. Mendoza.
