Our incredible dad, grandfather, father-in-law and friend, Ruben Peña, 57, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at a hospital in Laredo, Texas. He was born in Laredo on September 19, 1968, to Domingo Peña Sr. and Maria Elena Fuentes Peña .
Ruben was a hard worker from a young age as he started working as a Heavy equipment operator, alongside his dad, and continued to do so for many years to follow. He also enjoyed cutting grass and commonly volunteered to clean the cemetery, donating any money paid to him to the local church. Most importantly, Ruben loved seeing his grandkids play sports and enjoyed talking about how they performed. He was also a big Dallas Cowboys Fan - GO COWBOYS!!
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ruben Peña Jr.; sisters, Maria Elena Leal and Frances P. Villanueva; half-brother, Alfredo Fuentes; and half-sister, Hermelinda Duran.
Ruben leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be treasured by his daughter, Leanne (Jesus Mendieta) Peña of Hebbronville; grandchildren, Adalynn Jenai Mendieta and Jesus Enrique Mendieta Jr.; brothers, Jose S. (Dolores) Peña of Premont, Texas, Domingo (Karen) Peña Jr. of Nevada, Reynaldo (Erica) Peña of Hebbronville, Victor (Rachel) Peña Sr. of California, and David Peña of Chicago; sisters, Guadalupe P. Love of Dallas,Texas, Sandra P. (Johnny) Mugica of Austin, Texas, Cecilia P. Ramirez of Hebbronville, Laura P. (John) Trevino of Hebbronville, and Diana P. (Pablo) Ramos of San Antonio, Texas; half-brother, Domingo (Emilia) Peña Jr. of Laredo; half-sisters, Delfina Zuniga of Loveland, Colorado, and Maria Perez of Henderson, Colorado; and many extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jose L. Garcia Jr., Pablo Ramos, Cesar Chanona, Fernando Canales, Juan Guardian, and Juan Mendieta. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adalynn Mendieta and Jesus Mendieta Jr.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Hebbronville, with a Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville. Services will conclude with Burial at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
