The patriarch of the Ramirez family, Ruben Ramirez, has entered into the eternal kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after being blessed with 91 years of life. Ruben was born on June 12, 1934, in Agua Nueva, Texas, to Conrado Ramirez and Wenceslada Saenz Ramirez. From those humble beginnings in Jim Hogg County, Ruben’s life grew into a legacy rooted in faith, family, and service.
In July of 1956, he married the love of his life, Elvia Cantu Ramirez - a love story that would span nearly seven decades. Together, they built a beautiful life in Hebbronville, Texas, raising seven children with strong values, deep faith, and unconditional love.
Before his retirement in 2010, Ruben spent his entire adult life in service to others through his work with Howard Williams Funeral Home. He was a dedicated employee and eventually became part-owner of the business for many years. He carried out his work with dignity, empathy, and a quiet strength that earned the trust and admiration of all who worked with him and knew him.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Ruben knew that he was more than just wise - he was sharp, insightful, and very precise, especially when it came to one of his greatest passions: sports. He was a walking encyclopedia of statistics, game histories, and player records. He loved many sports and teams, but none quite like his Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, he stood by them - just as he stood by his family and friends.
Ruben had a strong spirit. At times he could be tenacious, but that fire was always rooted in love and deep care - especially for his children and grandchildren. He gave guidance, shared stories, offered quiet support, and when needed, a firm word spoken with love. His presence commanded respect, but more importantly, it inspired love.
Ruben was the kind of man who reminded you that strength doesn’t always need to be loud, and love doesn’t always need to be spoken to be felt. His legacy lives on through every life he touched - through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and through the lessons he taught by example.
As we must say goodbye, we also say thank you to God, for the gift of Ruben’s life. He now rests in peace, embraced by the eternal love of his Creator, and reunited with loved ones who went before him: his parents; daughter, Diana Rodriguez; sons, Ruben Ramirez and Ricky Ramirez; brothers, Raul (Emilia) Ramirez, Romeo (Juanita) Ramirez, and Rene Ramirez.
His life was long, full, and beautifully lived. And though our hearts ache with the loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is finally home.
Carrying his memory with them always are his wife, Elvia Ramirez of Hebbronville; children, Noemi (Hector) Carreon of Mcallen, Texas, Bobby (Dolly) Ramirez, Nancy Ramirez, and Kathy (Isael) Morales all of Hebbronville; sister-in-law, Grace Ramirez of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Martin Rodriguez Jr., Wendy Trevino, Benessa Perez, Hector Carreon II, Kymberly A. Ramirez, Joseph R. Garza, Robert R. Ramirez, Isael I. Morales II, and Kevin R. Ramirez; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Ruben's grandchildren will be honoring him as Pallbearers.
We gather to celebrate Ruben’s life on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Hebbronville. Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. with Visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville and services will conclude with Burial at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
