Sara V. Cantu

Sara V. Cantu entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on October 13, 1927 to Indalecio Vela and Josefina Carrejo Vela in Falfurrias, Texas. Her unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through 89 years of life where she was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. As she entered Heaven, she was reunited with her parents; husband, Ignacio Cantu, Sr.; sister, Gloria Martinez; brother, Hector C. Vela; grandsons, Jason R. Cantu and Rigo W. Perez; son-in-law, Joe L. Rodriguez and her grandparents who raised her, Jose and Susana Carrejo.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories and continue her legacy her five sons, Servando (Cathy) Cantu of California, Ignacio (Hortencia) Cantu, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Esteban (Diana) Cantu of Falfurrias, Humberto (Margie) Cantu of Alice, Texas and Fernando (Diana) Cantu of Premont, Texas; two daughters, Nora Rodriguez of Corpus Christi and Alma (Abraham) Benavides of Agua Dulce, Texas; step-daughter, Elida (Ruben) Perez of Falfurrias; three brothers, Indalecio (Naida) C. Vela, Jr., Alvaro (Imelda) C. Vela and Jose (Janie) C. Vela all of Corpus Christi; sister, Maria Elena Garza of Corpus Christi; sister-in-law, Mary Christine Vela of Corpus Christi; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ignacio Cantu, III, Esteban Cantu, Jr., Humberto Cantu, Jr., A.J. Benavides, Freddy Cantu, Jr. and Willy Cantu. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Cantu, Thomas Cantu and Marcos Cantu.

Appreciation is expressed to the entire staff of The Palms Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Corpus Christi, Texas for the care given to Sara for over 12 years.

Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church - 302 W. Allen St. in Falfurrias with a viewing beginning at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias.
