Soila Salinas Cavazos entered God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Friday, July 12, 2019 after an extensive and courageous battle with cancer. She fought with such great determination and bravery until the very end and continually showed her family what strength and willpower truly looked like.
Soila’s life began on May 4, 1930 when she was born in Falfurrias, Texas to Santos Salinas and Magdalena Mayorga Salinas. Later in life, she met her sweetheart, Oscar Cavazos and together they had three children. As lifetime residents of Falfurrias, Oscar owned and operated Cavazos Electric Contractor Business while Soila proudly and enthusiastically dedicated over 60 years of her life to Brooks County where she worked in different areas until her third retirement.
Soila lived and made beautiful memories with her family for 89 glorious years. As the matriarch of the family, she instilled in her children and grandchildren the true meaning of the words faith, love and hope. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and the love she had for her family, friends and hometown never went unnoticed. Some might even remember Soila as frequently riding horses in the county parades and rodeos and she was even a member of the local riding club. She was always flashing her megawatt, contagious smile and loved sporting fashionable country wear or Dallas Cowboys football attire.
Soila was also the Democratic Party Chairman for Brooks County for many years and was selected by the Corpus Christi Caller Times as a person of great significance. She loved to hunt, dance and was a wonderful outdoorswoman. Music, especially Mariachi, was also a great love of hers.
As our Heavenly father welcomed Soila into Heaven, she was reunited with her parents; her husband, Oscar Cavazos, Sr.; two brothers, Oscar Salinas, Sr. and Arturo Salinas and three sisters, Bertha Salinas Gonzalez, Minerva Salinas Perez and Thelma Salinas Hurtford.
She leaves behind to carry on her many instilled lessons and memories her three children, Hector David (Norma) Cavazos Sr. of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Oscar (Marla) Cavazos, Jr. of Edinburg, Texas and Cynthia Cavazos (David) Oropeza of Falfurrias; eight grandchildren, Hector David Cavazos, Jr., David Hector Cavazos, Leanna Realynn Cavazos, Kristina Candice Cavazos, Oscar Cavazos, III, Samantha Rene` Pena, Brandon “LC” Oropeza and Victoria Seline Oropeza; five great-grandchildren Kasey Cavazos, Alexandra Pena, Jewellyssa Jolie Salinas, Jordan Pena and J’La Rodriguez; brother, Cecilio Salinas of Corpus Christi; brother-in-law, Ovidio (Ninfa) Cavazos of Corpus Christi, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
