Susan Elizabeth Jungman passed away peacefully at her parents’ home in Premont, Texas on January 29, 2022. She was born to Mary Beth Raymer Jungman and Claude Jungman in Falfurrias, Texas on June 2, 1959. Susan fought a decades long battle with bi polar disorder and or manic depression, and the obsessive and compulsive behaviors and the prescription medications and their side effects. She also had Tourette Syndrome, an incurable nervous system disorder.
In 1967, Susan took her baby dog, Duke, to the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Exposition and won, Best In Show, 2nd grade in Mercedes, and was awarded the blue ribbon by the legendary sidekick of Matt Dillon, Festus; so cute they were.
Susan attended school in Hebbronville grades 1 through 10, except for 2nd grade in Mercedes, Texas. She went to 11th and 12th grade in Premont. Susan was a great athlete in her youth, she would run five miles before most school days, and she was in great shape. She won many tennis matches, had great ground strokes, like a human backboard, she wore them down. She played hard for her Coaches, J B Gonzales in Hebbronville, Texas and Delma Jean Storm in Premont. She loved them both. In 1976, dad's big sister, Sweet Lena's only girl, Lucille Jungman Rihn, joined the family for a trip to Austin for the state tennis tournament. Susan got beat in the final by Teal Carroll of Austin Westlake, a very nice player. When Susan came back to win the state title in 1977, cancer stricken Aunt Lucille's shrieks of joy were straight from the heart, our favorite family memory. Susan played #1 for Southwest Texas State University as a freshman, had a great season, was named Outstanding Female Player, but that would be the end for tennis as she didn't play again.
She received her Bachelor of Arts on May 21, 1983 from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&I - Kingsville on August 15, 1986. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor on August 7, 2001. She taught at many schools including, Texas A&M - Kingsville, Bishop, Seguin, Austin and Brownsville. She was great with the kids, but struggled to get along with the adults. While teaching in Brownsville she met William Arthur Brito, they married in August of 1989 in Brownsville, Texas. Billy moved to Monterrey, Mexico and Susan eventually moved down there with him for some years. She taught English at a local university, but her increasing depression and lack of medication were a bad recipe. The now international marriage didn't last and she now had no one by her side. She still loved her Billy, all these years later.
Susan had many, many friends in Hebbronville and Premont, she had seen very few of them in years, and would want to thank them. Bertha and Melissa Ortiz, Della Faye, Toye, Barbara and Brother Rick, the Visels, Barbara and Hal DeShong, Dr. Hemmert and the 100’s of doctors who tried to help her, LeEtta, Fred and Geno Doelling, Diana and Victor Cerda, Cecilia Galindo, Harry Cherry family, Susan and Butch French and the classes of ’58, ’59, and ‘60, the Akers, the Holbeins, Linda and Steve Daly, Candelaria, Emily and Rudy Cantu, Mary Ann and Agapito, the Buterbaughs and David O and his awesome family for their kindnesses. She worshipped her family.
The family had many wonderful pets Chico, Christine, Tex, Midnight, Duke, Fritz, Plata, Poppi, a gorgeous Boykin Spaniel, her favorite, he's buried in the back yard, she missed him every day, Blackie, a cocker spaniel she helped Dad rescue, he died about 10 months after Dad did as he was lost without him, and Ouray, a gorgeous pittie who she helped rescue. She loved to pet all the dogs in the various campgrounds in Gunnison, Crested Butte and San Marcos. Actually, any dog, anywhere, she wanted to pet them all.
She loved Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs; we were looking forward to more football although just a year ago she wouldn't even look at the TV. She was a blessing to us for 62 years, like her big sister Cyndee was for 32 years, we wanted so much more for the both of them.
We loved Susan, fed her great, kept her clean, took her to all the nice places we knew of, but we couldn't help her with her illnesses. She was kind, intelligent, courteous, and very thankful for everything we tried to do for her. The joy in our lives will never be the same.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cynthia Ann Jungman; aunts, Lucille, Rosemary, Toni and Martha; uncles, Paul Anthony, infant, Alvia, Walter, Jack, Lloyd, James and George and cousins, Betty Keller, Louis Rihn.
She leaves behind her loving brother, Paul Jungman of San Marcos, Texas and her loving bulldog, Tchoupitoulas; and many cousins, Jackie Sue and Paige Raymer, Jimmy Raymer, Lloyd Raymer, Mike Raymer, Joyce and Glen Hans, Linda and John Rihn, Ronnie Keller, Eddie Jungman, Pinky Towner, Patsy Naeglin, Linn Raymer, Jackie Sue, Paige, Joann Milner, Richard Jungman and their families and many more extended family members.
A Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Rick Rice at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Premont with Visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m.
