Yolanda Canales, 78, of Hebbronville, passed away peacefully November 27, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 27, 1942, in Alice, Texas, to Francisco Sr. and Severa Lozano. She married the love of her life, Guadalupe Canales, in June of 1966. He was the center of her world for nearly 48 years, until he preceded her in death in 2014.
Together, Yolanda and Guadalupe raised a loving family, contributed to their community in significant ways, and practiced their faith through acts of service.
Yolanda was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost; the needs of her family were her priority – whether her service was in the family business or in the home.
She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them - even the moments during Mass where she wouldn’t hesitate to give a loving but serious pinch to children who were misbehaving.
She especially loved her role as “Güela” and watching her grandchildren play sports and perform brought her so much joy.
Yolanda loved to laugh and a good joke or funny story was a quick way to her heart. With so much grounding and stability in her life, it was no surprise that she also loved the risky spin of a slot machine from time-to-time.
But, most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of loving and being with family, seeking and embracing happiness, and choosing and prioritizing health.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. She will eternally reunite with her husband, her parents, her siblings Francisco Lozano Jr., Miguel Lozano, Justo Lozano, Rosa Hughes, Marcela Ruiz and her granddaughter, Kathy Soliz. She is survived by her daughters: Yvette Soliz, Sylvia Martinez, and Laura Canales; sons: Victor Canales and Loreto Canales; siblings: Israel Lozano, Adan Lozano, and Benjamin Lozano; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and many beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces. Pallbearers for the service will include her two sons, and grandsons Ricardo Soliz Jr., Eloy Martinez, Jr., Eric, Isaac, and Michael Dominguez.
In light of local and state ordinances due to the ongoing pandemic, the family will hold a limited, private visitation and service on Friday, December 4 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams, 401 Texas St., Hebbronville, TX. As part of the service, a rosary will be held on December 4 at 9:30 am and will be accessible for virtual participation through the website www.FunerariaDelAngelHWilliams.com
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Yolanda Canales for an Offering Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic.
