to the late James and Betty Pless. She grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan and graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1970. She continued her education and graduated from Flint U of M. She had various occupations but retired after working as Mine and Quarry Safety Inspector for the State of Michigan. She earned a master’s degree in Mine & Safety Inspection and was one of the first female safety inspectors in this category.
Throughout her life she had many interests and hobbies. One of her earliest activities was the high school swim and dive team. She went on to be a lifeguard. At 16 she won a medal in the CANUSA high dive competitions. Her love of water sports and swimming continued throughout her lifetime.
Another interest she pursued as a young adult was music. She seriously studied voice and piano. Singing and studying music became emphasized in her life after retirement. She enjoyed being part of Messiah performances several times and participated in classes at FIM.
Other than sports and music Cindy developed other talents. One of her favorite hobbies was watercolor painting. Some of her works were chosen to illustrate book jackets. Another art she enjoyed was designing and making stained glass window hangings. On the domestic front Cindy enjoyed baking things like bundt cakes, chocolate truffles and secret-recipe cornbread. Making soap, crafting candles and making tennis bracelets were some other crafts she loved to create.
Her accomplishments and interests do not tell the whole story, though. She, above all, was a devoted Mom and valued working hard to make dreams come true for her family. Our Cynthia was brilliant, energetic and resilient. She set the bar with zeal for all of us to follow. In her spiritual life she lived this out as well. She had a living faith and hope in God that got her through many valleys. Thank you, Cynthia, for all your encouragement for us to be our best selves and to look up to Heaven with gratitude.
Cindy is survived by her daughter Rosalind Savoie, and son, Christopher Butcher. She is also survived by a sister, Krystal Seaman (Timothy Seaman,) and a brother, Lawrence Pless (Sandy Murphy), 5 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews and 2 great-great nieces & nephews.
