chose a beautiful day, sunny and breezy, just after his mother’s birthday, as though to share one
last quiet celebration. Surrounded by his beloved daughters, Ava and Amélie, Alain’s final
moments were as intentional as the life he lived, and he will be remembered as a loving father,
son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend.
Born on August 25, 1975 in Chicago to Viviane Bailey and Serge Adam, Sr., Alain was raised on
the West Side with siblings Marjorie and Serge, Jr. A proud Eagle Scout and graduate of
Fenwick High School, he later earned a degree in psychology from the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign and an Executive Certificate from the University of Chicago Booth School of
Business.
Alain built a career defined by excellence and integrity, from early roles at United States Surgical
to leadership at Relievant Medsystems. Colleagues admired his strategic brilliance and calm
strength, qualities he brought to every relationship and endeavor.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: watching the Cubs with his daughters, eating red grapes,
working out daily, and exploring the world. His travels spanned all fifty states and six
continents, but it was the shared experiences with loved ones that mattered most. Above all, he
was most proud of being a father to Ava and Amélie, who were at the heart of everything he did.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and given less than a year to live, Alain defied expectations with
courage and grace. He went on to build a full life, welcoming Ava in 2007 and Amélie in 2009.
In 2023, he faced a second diagnosis, glioblastoma, and with the same determination, he fought
to extend his time in hopes of seeing Ava graduate from high school.
Alain is preceded in death by his father, Serge, Sr., and he is survived by his two daughters, Ava
and Amélie, his mother, Viviane, his siblings, Marjorie and Serge, Jr. (Lia), as well as a large and
loving family of half-siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, and aunts.
He will be remembered as a mind that wandered wide and a heart that ran deep.
