Bertha A. Vlcek of LaGrange Park, formerly of North Riverside, Cicero and Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family October 11, 2016. Bertha was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Agnes Potokar, on February 25, 1925. She graduated from Farragut High School and was employed as an office manager by Prudential Insurance Company for 8 years when she retired to become a homemaker and mother. She married Frank L. Vlcek in 1948. Frank was an award-winning automobile salesman for a Lincoln-Mercury dealer in Westmont, Illinois. Bertha enjoyed doing word puzzles, collecting recipes and writing letters during her married life to her devoted husband of 58 years. Her beloved husband passed away in October, 2006. Bertha was a lifelong member of the Slovene National Benefit Society, Lodge #1.Preceding Bertha in death in addition to her parents and husband are two siblings: John and Alice Potokar. Surviving Bertha are her children William (Diane) of Medinah, Illinois, Denise (Richard) Messenger of Mishawaka, Indiana, Martin (Jeannette) of Darien, Illinois, and Virginia (James) Judd of Asheville, North Carolina. Grandchildren: Amanda Vlcek, Alexander Thessen, Kimberly (Charles) Salada, Lee Vlcek, Maia and Noah Judd. Several nephews also survive Bertha.Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 15 from 10:00am until time of chapel funeral service 11:30a at Woodlawn Funeral Home 7750 W. Cermak Rd.
