

Buris attended JohnMarshall Metro High School where he enjoyed baseball, shortly after High School Buris was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country proudly for four years including Vietnam where he was honorably discharged. Buris later went to pursue a career in transportation with Chicago Northwestern Railroad, then onto American President Lines where he retired in 2011.
In 1974 Buris was introduced to Teresa by his best friend Rodney Nelson. Buris and Teresa were later married on July 2, 1976 and because of this union they raised four loving children.
Buris was preceded in death by his parents Dolly Operton and Clem Smith.
Buris passed away peacefully at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital on Friday, June 2, 2017
Buris leaves behind to cherish his memories a loving wife Teresa Batey, four children Julian Carter, John(Roxanne) Carter, Satin Batey, Krystle (Kenyatta) Powell, adopted daughter Nikki (Sean) Anderson, two sisters Lela and Donna Operton, six grandchildren Ashley, Jasmine, John, Jaya, Brooklyn, Samuel IV, one great grandchild Adrianna. Buris also leaves behind a brother-in-law Edmond(Ruthie) Johnson, a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and three special men he called his sons Daris Swanigan, Joe Martin and Samuel Edwards III.
