Edward John Hagstrom, Jr. of La Grange, IL died February 17, 2019. He was born March 23, 1927 in Oak Park, IL to Edward J. Hagstrom Sr. and Hilda Marie (Pettersson) Hagstrom. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence and Hilding, and sister Mildred Roberts. He is survived by Darlene C. Enger, his long-time companion; four nephews, David Hagstrom of Portland OR, Alan Hagstrom of Hugo, MN, Roy Hagstrom of Park Rapids, MN, and Glen Hagstrom of Moore, OK; two nieces, Carol Hagstrom of Park Rapids MN and Michelle Roberts Dunn of Palos Verdes Estates CA; many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was a 1945 graduate of Oak Park & River Forest High School and studied at the University of Illinois Chicago, Northwestern IL College and the Illinois Institute of Technology for his drafting skills. He worked as a draftsman in the railroad industry of Chicago for over forty years, retiring in the early 1990s.
Edward served in the United States Naval Reserve on active duty from 1945 to 1946 continuing on inactive status until 1962.
He became a member of Candida Masonic Lodge #927 in 1960. He was Worshipful Master in 1966 and when Candida became United Lodge in 1978. He joined Sunrise Daylight Lodge in Westchester IL in 1988, serving as treasurer in 1992. He became a Royal Arch Mason of West Suburban Chapter, York Rite Bodies of LaGrange IL in 1980. He was Excellent High Priest in 1983, Thrice Illust. Master in 1984, and Com-mander of Trinity Commandry in 1985 and 1995. He also was a member of Scotish Rite Valley, Medinah Shrine Motor Corp., Northwest Shrine Club and Austin Commandry Motor Corp.
He was a Member of Knight York Rite Cross of Honor IL, York Rite College # 15 as Pre-Eminent Governor in 1999 Chicago, Order of the Purple Cross, Charlotte NC 2000 EML Council #319 Chicago. St Bridget Council #23, Knight Masons 1981, St. John’s Conclave / Red Cross of Constantine Chicago, 2002. He joined LaGrange Chapter Or-der of the Eastern Star in 1984 and was Worthy Patron in 1986-92-97 2006-10, Shep-herds #49 in 1984 and was Watchman of Shepherds1994.1995. Friendship Court #15. Order of the Amaranth and served as Royal Patron 1992.1994,97, 2002, 10. He was elected as Grand Associate in 1998 and served as Grand Royal Patron in 1999. In 2006-2008 he was appointed as Grand Representative in IL of Alabama in Eastern Star.
He joined Robert E. Coulter Jr. Post # 1941 American Legion in LaGrange IL and was Commander in 1993-4.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home 7750 W. Cermak Rd.; Forest Park, IL Thursday 3-8p.m. An American Legion Service will be held Thurs. at 7 pm immediately followed by a Masonic service.
