I recently saw a letter Gene wrote to The Mineralogical Record,,when I saw his name and Addison ,IL. I knew it had to be my friend that use to take me mineral collecting before I could drive.He use to come into my Dad's Drug Store in North Riverside.He helped me when I was a mineral dealer.He would help me unpack boxes of mineral specimens. I loved the red and white 58 thunderbird he had that he would take me rockhounding.I was profoundly sad to hear of his passing.

One of my favorite memories from my childhood, was when he built the tree house in the back yard.  That became my favorite hideout.       He also taught me many things about gardening, one of his many interests.  He showed me how to save flower seeds for next year.  How to trim fruit trees and also grafting one fruit tree branch on to another fruit tree.

Thank you for helping me build that little bubble gum machine for science class.

Just a few of many memories:

Building my first balsa wood propeller airplane and going to the forest preserve to fly it. 

Going together to buy my first drum set. We drove to Chicago and found one in the window of a pawn shop. It was a used Ludwig brand Blue Oyster Pearl set.  I had saved $25.00 dollars and I believe they were $30.00.  I was so happy and proud that it was the exact same one that Ringo in the Beatles had on stage. 
I became a great drummer and went on to guitar too.

While helping my dad build his sister's home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, he let me throw a fishing line in off the pier while he was working. I caught two fish at the same time  on each of the hooks ! Never happened before this.
