Remembering George E. Ferguson

To: Loraine, George’s wife,
his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

﻿﻿As a young person growing up in Georgetown, the capital city of the colony of British Guiana (BG) now known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. I first met George Ferguson at our home when he was courting my eldest sister, the lateJean Ferguson aka Kitty. 
Subsequently, they were married and raised four sons. George was a physical specimen and a Soccer player,  in BG Soccer was known as Football. George was a center forward for two teams YMCA, a hard shoe team and Continental, a soft shoe team. Two recognized players on his teams were Kenrick Squeaky Hinds his lifelong friend and Compton Julian. Some known players of other competitive teams were Monty Hope, Dotsy Braithwaite and a host of other players. Also, George was a member of the BG national football team and to my disappointment, he was not selected to be part of the West Indies team on tour to England.
I remember George for taking me on his bicycle and riding through the paid gates of the Georgetown Football Club (GFC). To a starry eyed young person, seeing George on the football field brought moments of nervousness, excitement and satisfaction, especially, if his team won the game.
Also, when i fractured my left wrist playing football, George was there to take me to the Public Hospital Georgetown (PHG). He used his influence as a Pharmacist to get me through the long lines and almost instant medical care.
To conclude, i would like to attach the following message from my nephew Kenneth Ferguson, George’s eldest son sent to me on Palm Sunday:

Cyril, Daddy went to be with the Lord this morning, his wife of 30-years said he was a man of dignity and while she was reading him the Bible this morning, he opened his eyes, smiled and flew away into eternity.
