Grandpa,

It took me quite awhile to figure out a way I could possibly put into words how much you mean to me and how deeply I miss you. It's been pretty hard for me since you left on your journey to heaven. I missed a lot of time with you that I can't make up and I'm so sorry for that. I would do anything for just one more hug and one more kiss from you, and to hear the excitement in your voice greeting me and telling me how much you love me. I miss you terribly but you aren't suffering anymore and I'm thankful that you are able to rest at peace now. You are such a strong and loving man and I cherish those qualities most about you. You have passed down so many of life's lessons to help guide us through our best and worst times; what it means to be a family, acceptance, loyalty, trust, generosity, and to live life to the fullest.  I can't wait for the day when I can teach my children to go fishing and to pass down the traditions and the memories of you and our family. They may not have been able to meet you but your legacy will live on through all of us who have been so blessed to have spent time with you. Your strength throughout the years has given me such a will to keep going even when the times are unbearable. I love you grandpa with everything I have in me, you mean the world to me and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Watch over me my guardian angel. You will always be on my mind and forever in my heart.

You are the finest example of a man I have known. You are the master of ceremonies, the captain of the ship and the head of this family. You remain the heart and soul of so much that we are and have carved out a legacy that far surpasses a name. You will never know how much you have shaped the people around you. 
Your heart, your handshake, your contagious smile, a seat at your card table, a place on your boat and a place in your heart have helped make me who I am today. Should I live my life with half the grace and class you have I will have done something in this life.
You are many things to many different people but most importantly to me you are Grandpa. 
I love you and look forward to another round of knock knock.

Dad, I truly miss you.  You were my father-in-law, my friend, my rock.  I could write an entire book about you and the kind of man you were, but when I think of you I think of a man with strength, trust, faith and respect. 
Strength – The first time I ever met you and your family was on Easter Sunday in 1975.  I had long hair and a goatee, was wearing an unbuttoned shirt and pants with one leg rolled up and smoking a cigarette, and had no job (someone no father would want their daughter to bring home).  Yes, it took strength to shake my hand that day and welcome me into your home.
Trust and Faith – You had that in your daughter and in her choice of a boyfriend. Wow…, but Dad, you did.
Respect – You showed me that from our first handshake that Easter Sunday until our very last “pinky” handshake at the hotel on your way back to Florida.
I can never fill your shoes, Dad, but from the first time I met you I knew that if there were anyone's shoes I wanted to try and fill, they were yours.  So after 38 ½ years of you putting up with me not knowing how to play cards very well, to always being late for family get-togethers, to hooking your pontoon boat more times than I hooked fish, and cheating in horseshoes (I think Uncle Dale was the only one that knew that) and still losing to you, I'm trying my hardest to fill those shoes.  There are lyrics to an old song that I like to sing which always reminded me of you…  “I'm going to Color Him Father, I'm going to Color Him Love.”  So Dad, Jimbo, I do color you father, and I do color you love, and I know despite my shortcomings you were proud of me because you showed and told me so.  Thanks for everything Dad.  I miss you so much Buddy, but in no time I'll be with you, Grandpa & Uncle Jerry playing “ Márias “ again, with Grandma fixing all of us a duck dinner.

Dear Grandpa,

It's hard to believe that you're gone.  Although you may not be here you still live on in each one of our hearts.  We love you so much and are thankful for the memories and love that you left for us.  We learned to be strong, loving, and true to our word because that is what you taught us.  We learned to laugh when times are hard and no matter what may happen in life to always have a smile on our face.  You are one of the strongest men that I have ever known and my role model for the type of man I would like to be.  Some of my best memories were hearing you say “Matty boy” every time we came to visit you for the holidays or at the cabin.  I remember all the laughs that the family shared at the jokes you would make!  I am proud to be part of the family and thankful to have you as my grandpa.

Dad, you always made sure we knew how much you loved us and I feel so blessed that you're my dad.  You raised your girls to be strong and I'm grateful for that because we so need that strength now.  You desperately wanted to stay with us, and Lord knows we prayed hard that you could stay.  You fought the fight just the way you lived - with courage, dignity, humor and determination.  You called all the shots, Dad, and you made us so proud.  I miss you so much and I think about you every single day.  So many things remind me of you, like the smell of popcorn, Bears football, Wisconsin commercials, and on and on.  My heart aches for you, but I take comfort in realizing that even though you're physically not here, you'll always be near, in my mind, in my heart, and in my soul.   The memory of you is deeply engrained in all the things that you loved and did, and all of those things will always and forever remind me of you.  You left us with a beautiful, loving mother, happy memories, and funny stories to cherish and hang on to.  Thank you, Dad.

  You are truly one of God's greatest gifts. You are a real family man and have set an example for us all to learn and live by. Every loving memory I have is of your contagious smile and warm laughter. Each time I think back to the fond memories of my childhood I remember walking into the room and hearing you shout "Stophers!" followed by a huge hug.
