Jose is survived by his wife, companion, and best friend, Maria Guadalupe Piña; his children, Jacqueline, Alejandro, Hector, and Oscar; and his grandchildren, Aniel Elisa, Allison Grace, Emily Addison, Lily Madeline, and Oscar Ronan.
Jose was born in Mexico City, Mexico on November 10, 1946 to Vicente Piña and Juanita Ramirez. On December 14, 1974 he married his sweetheart Maria G. Cortez. Between November 1975 and November 1986, he welcomed one beautiful daughter and three wonderful sons.
Jose was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked at General Electric as a machine operator for over 40 years and retired on 2008. He enjoyed grilling for his family during gatherings and holidays. He loved the sport of volleyball and was often found on the court during family reunions. He loved to watch his favorite sport of boxing on television and loved to read the Chicago Sun Times every afternoon. He was the prankster and jokester of the family and would give joy to everyone who heard his contagious laughter. He was known to shake his keys during photo ops and provide "El Servicio de Llaves" to all family members who needed it. He enjoyed eating at Paisans restaurant and loved to take his wife on impromptu dates. He loved to travel with the family and has recently traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, Orlando, St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, Seattle, Portland, Madison, Smokey Mountains, Toronto, San Francisco and Oakland. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on October 18 at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church in Cicero, IL.
