

Luis was born on April 8, 1967, in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Moises and the late Rosario Serrano. He spent his childhood in Salvatierra before moving to Chicago with his mother and three siblings to reunite with their family. It was in Chicago that Luis discovered his calling, launching a lifelong career in the hospitality industry. As a Certified Sommelier, he dedicated his life to the art of storytelling through flavor, effortlessly guiding guests toward the perfect bottle and creating unforgettable memories. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of elevated hospitality, deep community, and countless shared toasts.
Known for his kindness, strong leadership, and sense of humor, Luis lived life with a vibrant energy. He loved city bike rides, lakefront activities, and sharing his profound appreciation for fine wine. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his father, Moises Serrano; his beloved children, Tamara and Derek, and their mother, Vicky, with whom he maintained a close and supportive friendship. He will be deeply missed by his siblings and their families: his sister Maria Carrera and her husband Frank, along with their children Madisson and Sebastian; his brother Victor Serrano and his wife Griselda, along with their children Jocelyn and Alexia; and his sister Ana Al-Sakhria, along with her children Adam and Analyse. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosario Serrano.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Solazo, 5600 S. Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60629.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Luis's honor to the American Cancer Society.
