Rafaela nació el 13 de agosto de 1954 en Durango, México, hija de Lorenzo y Adelina Cano. Creció en El Corazón, Tepehuanes, Durango y posteriormente se trasladó a Chicago, IL. Fue ama de casa dedicada a su maravillosa familia.

Se casó con Juan Francisco Chaidez el 19 de abril de 1974, y juntos compartieron 51 años de matrimonio. Criaron Leticia Chaidez (Adolfo Vargas), Yesenia Gandara (Omar Gandara), Y Esteban Chaidez. También compartio tiempo criando sus nietos Omar Jr. Gandara y Lino Gandara.

A lo largo de los años, Rafaela tocó la vida de muchos con su amabilidad, resiliencia y espíritu inquebrantable. Era conocida por su dedicación a la familia y a la comunidad, siempre dispuesta a tender una mano o prestar un oído atento. Su legado es de amor, compasión y fortaleza, dejando recuerdos preciados para quienes la conocieron. La vida de Rafaela fue un testimonio del impacto que una sola persona puede tener, y su presencia será profundamente extrañada por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

Rafaela deja atrás a sus hermanos: Jose de Luz Cano (Hortencia Cano), Roberto Cano (Zenaida Cano), Flavia Monarrez (finado Hilario Monarrez), Miguel Cano (Rosario Cano), Carmen Cano (Angel Rivera), Silvia Monarrez (Jose Monarrez), Chelo Borjon (Salvador Borjon), Elena Silva (Rogelio Silva), Martina Cano (Javier Rodriguez), Jesus Manuel Cano, Lucia Cano (Moises Camacho), Rogelio Cano (Monica Pedraza) y Martha Cisneros (Efrain Cisneros). Le precedieron en fallecimiento sus padres Lorenzo y Adelina Cano y su hermana Amalia Cano.

El miércoles 11 de marzo, de 9:00 AM a 10:00 AM, se llevará a cabo una Visita Matutina en Woodlawn Funeral Home, seguida a las 10:00 AM por la Procesión hacia Mt. Maria Rafaela Chaidez, age 71, originally from Durango, Mexico, passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, in Chicago, IL.

Rafaela was born on August 13th, 1954, in Durango, Mexico, to Lorenzo and Adelina Cano. She grew up in El Corazón, Tepehuanes, Durango, and later relocated to Chicago, IL. She was a devoted homemaker to her wonderful family.

She married Juan Francisco Chaidez on April 19th, 1974, and together they shared 51 years of marriage. They raised Leticia Chaidez (Adolfo Vargas), Yesenia Gandara (Omar Gandara), and Esteban Chaidez. She also spent time helping raise her grandchildren, Omar Jr. Gandara and Lino Gandara.

Throughout the years, Rafaela touched the lives of many with her kindness, resilience, and unwavering spirit. She was known for her dedication to her family and community, always willing to lend a hand or offer a listening ear. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and strength, leaving behind cherished memories for all who knew her. Rafaela’s life was a testament to the impact one person can have, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rafaela is survived by her siblings: Jose de Luz Cano (Hortencia Cano), Roberto Cano (Zenaida Cano), Flavia Monarrez (the late Hilario Monarrez), Miguel Cano (Rosario Cano), Carmen Cano (Angel Rivera), Silvia Monarrez (Jose Monarrez), Chelo Borjon (Salvador Borjon), Elena Silva (Rogelio Silva), Martina Cano (Javier Rodriguez), Jesus Manuel Cano, Lucia Cano (Moises Camacho), Rogelio Cano (Monica Pedraza), and Martha Cisneros (Efrain Cisneros). She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Adelina Cano, and her sister Amalia Cano.

In loving memory of Rafaela Chaidez, we invite family and friends to join us in honoring her life on Tuesday, March 10th, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for Private Visitation (immediate family only) and from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM for Public Visitation (all guests welcome).

On Wednesday, March 11th, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a Morning Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed at 10:00 AM by the procession to Mt. Carmel Cemetery (Hillside, IL) for the burial.
