Mary Shallon

Mary was born on July 12, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, the tenth of fourteen children born to Jesus and Senobia (Cuellar) Calderon. She attended McClaren Grammar School and Richard’s Vocational High School.

Mary dedicated much of her life to her family. After retiring, she embraced her role as a homemaker, cherishing the opportunity to enjoy life and spend precious time watching and caring for her grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and the memories she created with them will be treasured for generations to come.

A woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, Mary loved cooking, bowling, dancing, movie nights, bingo, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends, siblings, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her warm spirit, love of laughter, and devotion to those around her will be deeply missed.

Mary was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima.

She leaves behind a beautiful and loving family, including her children, Belinda (Charlie), Nick, Mary (Rick), Donna (Miguel), Anita Leroy, Don (Mary), and Juanita; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. A 5 generation legacy. She is also survived by her sisters Gloria (Frank), Theresa, and Carmen, her brother Louis and Sister In Law Yolanda, and many other beloved family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Senobia Calderon, and her beloved son, Robert Abernathy.

Mary’s life was filled with family, laughter, love, and countless memories. Though she will be deeply missed, her love lives on through the many lives she touched and the generations of family.

Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 W. Cermak Road, Forest Park, IL 60130, on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Chapel Service will take place at Woodlawn Funeral Home, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
