Melvin E. Holmes, Jr. was born May 6, 1954, and made his transition April 20, 2025 (Resurrection Sunday). Melvin died of Dementia, a disease that’s deadlier than falling off of a never-ending cliff. Melvin fought this disease tenaciously, until it became a huge struggle for him.
Melvin was intelligent, analytical and very articulate. He diligently pursued different religions and philosophies to bolster his spirituality. He did discover one that became the truth for him. From that, a dramatic change, all for the better, became very visible. He became even more focused on what he wanted to do with his life & his family. He applied related spiritual principles to become more productive and more self-assured in tackling life’s goals. He loved reading self-help books, and studying sci-fi. Melvin was a huge fan of Star Trek and Star Wars. He loved music, with jazz being a favorite. He also had a soft spot for R&B, with Chaka Khan being one of his favorite artists. Biking, golfing and tennis were also among Melvin’s favorite activities.
Melvin loved his family. His mom (Annie Napue) and sister (Cynthia Lynn) preceded him in death, but their days together were filled with love, good times and laughter. Melvin’s dad, Melvin Sr. and stepdad Henry Napue Sr. provided an impact on Melvin’s life. Both also proceeded Melvin in death. Melvin loved his sisters Donna Bell (husband Addison) and Patricia West, and his brother Henry Napue (wife Santella) dearly. Melvin had many very good times with them as well.
Melvin loved LaVone, who was his childhood sweetheart. She became his wife, and they were married 49 years, actually living their wedding vows. When their eyes met, it was with much love and affection. Melvin’s proudest moments involved the birth of his children, Melvin III (wife Timmothea) and Lynnaea (fiancé Franck & stepson Alessio), & his grandchildren Xavier, Kayla, Zharria, and Kaillan. The love, compassion and support for Melvin III, Lynnaea, Xavier, Kayla, Zharria, and Kaillan was immeasurable. The love Melvin had for his entire family also includes uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters in law, and brothers in law.
Melvin will be truly missed, but it’s comforting to know that “He’s Resting in Peace & Love”.
Memorial visitation will be 11 am Friday, June 6, 2025, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 W. Cermak Rd., Forest Park, IL 60130.
