Millie Giles, age 90, of Cicero and La Grange Park died near Tampa, FL on June 21, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents Susie and Stefan Yurik, her siblings Ann Yurek and Steve Yurek (the late Joan). She is survived by sister, Susanne Pirelli (the late Henry).
Millie leaves two daughters, Carol Giles of Wheaton, IL and Joyce Giles Williams (David) of Tarpon Springs, FL; Joyce’s children, Jennifer of Tampa and David of Atlanta;, nephews and nieces and their children, cousins in upstate New York, and relatives in Slovakia that she was able to meet for the first time 30 years ago as part of a genealogy trip.
Millie grew up in the Berwyn United Lutheran Church, had been a homemaker and class mom, a member of Sokol Slavsky, the La Grange Park YMCA, and Silver Sneakers. She retired from secretarial work (Sears and a bakery company—JR Short Milling). She was active in La Grange Park politics with her neighbors, gardened, and maintained her own home for many years. She moved close to Joyce’s family a few years ago.
Her memorial services will be Friday, July 11th--visitation 1:30 p.m. until time of memorial service 2:15 p.m., and at Woodlawn Funeral Home 7750 W. Cermak Rd., Forest Park, IL (Cermak Rd. and Des Plaines Ave.) Burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Forest Park.
