"Rebecca C. Ferrer, age 80, passed away on Friday, August 30. She was born on April 17, 1939 in Camiling Tarlac, Philippines, one of four siblings (Angel, Servillano, and Flora). She came to the U.S. in the 1960s as an au pair and saved her well-earned income before going back home to the Philippines to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated from Philippine Women’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She migrated to the United States and settled first in New Jersey where she worked as a registered nurse and then moved to Michigan before settling down in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as an Operating Room nurse at Holy Cross Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital and participated in multiple international medical missions. Through nursing she met a lot of people who became lifelong friends. She was a devout Catholic, fierce friend, and beloved sister and aunt who was exceedingly generous to everyone she knew. Her love for traveling brought her to many places around the world. She loved to cook for people and crochet in her free time. She is survived by her sister, six nephews, five nieces, and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. She is loved by many and will be missed dearly."

Rebing was a strong presence during my childhood in the Philippines. I saw her very sparingly upon moving to the USA but I will always admire her independence and spirit. Rest In Peace 💐
