Sofia V. Garcia

Sofia was born on November 25, 1945, in Yuriria, Guanajuato to Antonio and Maria Guadalupe Villagomez. She married Isidoro Garcia in 1961, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. In 1976, they made Chicago their home, where they lovingly raised their six children: Bertha, Nicolas, Javier, Roberto, Miguel, and Lupita.

Sofia was an inspiring wife and mother. Her unwavering strength and love proved to be everlasting. She worked hard at everything she did. From her time at Harris Lamps to her time at Gilbar, she never missed a day of work. The patience and unconditional love she showed as a mother are beautifully reflected in the families her children have created. Sofia was famous for many dishes, especially her tamales, mole, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, sopes, scrambled eggs and pancakes.

Sofia’s steadfast faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of her life. She loved God’s word deeply and through her determination and love for scripture, taught herself to read by reading the Bible. Along with Isidoro, they faithfully led countless Bible studies, encouraging others to grow in their relationship with the Lord. Her love for Christ extended far beyond the walls of the church. As she shared the gospel wherever God led her – going from house to house, speaking with neighbors, or striking conversations with people she met along the way. Her unwavering faith and passion for pointing others to Christ left an eternal legacy that will live on for generations to come.

Sofia was preceded in death by her husband, Isidoro, her sister Delia, and her parents, Antonio and Maria Guadalupe. She is survived by her siblings: Maria de Jesus, Salvador, Antonio, Rafael, Maria Esther, Arturo and Josefina. 6 children: Bertha Gomez, Nicolas (Ana) Garcia, Javier (Mariana) Garcia, Roberto (Vanessa) Garcia, Miguel (Lucy) Garcia and Lupita (Jose) Munoz. 13 grandchildren: Joel Gomez Garcia, Paola (Josue Ismael) Sanchez, Josue Gomez Garcia, Jennifer (Jose) Lara, Nick Garcia, Diego Garcia, Sofia Garcia, Myriah (Micah) Sheneman, Caleb Garcia, Joshua Garcia, Seth Garcia, Kassandra Munoz and Anthony Munoz. 7 Great Grandchildren: Vanessa Sanchez, Sofia Sanchez, Roberto Gomez, Violetta Lara, Elias Lara, Isabelle Lara and Ezra Garcia.

The Visitation and Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 West Cermak Rd. Forest Park, IL. 60130.
