Mr.Smetak was my English teacher for my senior year back in 2016. He was an amazing teacher! Him and I grew a close bond and was like a father to me. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by tons of students. His classroom was like my second home! I was there even before class started and we would talk about tea cup puppies, movies, and books. And he would give me cookies and candy everyday :)  I miss him very much and I keep the unicorn jewelry box he gave me next to my bed cause it's all I have left from him. Just very sad that foreman students won't get to experience his teaching or him welcoming his class by "hello kitties" with a smile. :(

Bill was one of my best friends at Eli Whitney Elementary School in Chicago.  Even at that early age, Bill was intelligent, wise, and very mature.  I will miss you, my good friend.

Words can't express the emotions I am feeling right now. My heart is so saddened to hear this news. Bill was not only a great teacher, friend, and person. He was the best stepfather Dad a girl could have. I wouldn't be the women I am today if it weren't for him. We think we have all the time in the world to be with our loved ones we take time for granted. I will forever be grateful I had him in my life.

Bill was a lifting buddy at my gym.  He motivated and inspired me to train harder, and he always had us cracking up.  It was easier getting my lazy butt to the gym, knowing he'd be there.  My sympathies to his family.

Mr. Smetak was the only teacher who encouraged me to pursue my art and poetry.  He showed me how to express my thoughts and emotions on paper, and was there when I nervously stood on stage at my first poetry slam.  He helped me become the artist and human being that I am today.  His family must miss him terribly - my thoughts and prayers go out to them all.

I had the wonderful fortune of having Bill as my mentor at the beginning of my teaching career.  His intelligence, compassion, and humor were in a league all by themselves.  The world will be a much less interesting place without him.  My condolences to his family and all who had the good luck to know him.

I will miss Bill.  I retired 10 years ago and remember him well.  He was brilliant and wonderful with whom to work.  My prayers for Nila and her family and Bill's family.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Mr. Smetak's passing. He was my absolute favorite teacher in my life of education. He is the reason I am so huge on English, literature and grammar to this very day. I will never forget him playing the violin for us or our poetry slam at the Sun Cafe where him and his beautiful wife gave me flowers. He will be sorely missed by me and many others. My prayers are with his family and friends at this time. R.I.P. Mr. Smeak. You were and will always be an inspiration to me.

Bill Smetak was one of the first teachers I met when I was hired to teach music and later theatre at Foreman high school. He showed me the ropes, we ran a drama club after school, and he would stop by to play the violin on occasion. He was a wonderful man and I thank him for his kindness to the newbie. He will be missed.
