Allison A. "Al" Johnson Sr.

ALLISON A. "AL" JOHNSON, SR., 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehab. Al was born April 8, 1921 in Lost Nation, Iowa and he received his Masters of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin. He retired as a School Counselor from the Hammond Indiana Public Schools after 16 years. he previously had taught at schools in Wisconsin. After retirement he was a Realtor for Jordan Realty and Aldon Builders in Lake County, Ind. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Wautoma Masonic Lodge #148. Surviving are his wife Patricia Ann; daughter, Mary (Don) Martin of Laguna Beach, Calif.; sons, Allison (Annette) Johnson, Jr. of Cimarron, N.M., Dr. James (Holly) Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and John Scurtu of Griffith, Ind.; grandchildren, Shauna (Gustavo) Morales, Alison (Tony) Ortega, and John (Patricia) Scurtu; stepchildren, Vickie (Mark) Sitz of Fort Wayne and William Carpenter of Westerville, Ohio; step-grandchildren, Adam, Mary and Anna Sitz, Megan and Nathan Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Linley Johnson, who died in 1982; daughter, Jean Ann Johnson-Scurtu who died in 1995; grandson, Donald Martin who died in 1982; and parents, Alfred and Sadie (Nichols) Johnson. Funeral service is 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., with calling one hour prior. Rev. Ron Verlee officiating. Graveside service is noon (CST) Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, Ind. Memorials to Bobby's Books, 855 S. Wall St., Columbus, Ohio. 43206.
