Alton worked at East Allen County Schools and Fort Wayne Community Schools until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and Taylor Chapel. Alton was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 725 and Mizpah Shrine. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, flying and sailing, playing his trumpet, and singing. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, always having a joke to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia White, children, Gregory (Theresa Leto) White and Matthew (Cathy) White; grandsons, Kevin and Kyle White.
He was preceded in death by son, Timothy White; sisters, Miriam Gruber, Margaret Houston and Ellen Harkless.
Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, August 8th, 2026 at Taylor Chapel, 10145 Maysville Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46835, with visitation one hour prior.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, August 7th, 2026 at Hockemeyer & Miller, 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, Taylor Chapel or to the family to be designated to a charity of their choice.
