BETTY J. KIRKE, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Coventry Meadows Nursing Home. Born Jan. 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Bessie Cowan. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in many capacities. Surviving are grandson, David H. Kirke; and sister, Donna Backofen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James H.; sons, Richard J., Thomas A., and James D. Kirke; sister, Mary Neptune; and brothers, R. Clyde and Frank Cowan. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road with calling a half hour prior to service. Rev. Mark Neubacher officiating. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Preferred memorials to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-Ins.
