Doug dedicated nine years of his life working as a logistics specialist at GM. Known as a true Jack of all trades, he could fix anything and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
A passionate musician, Doug’s love for music was a vital part of his life. He played trumpet in his high school marching band, where he made lifelong friends. Doug often reminisced about a performance he did as one of the Blues Brothers in jazz band. His love for rock and roll, especially ’80s classic rock, influenced his children’s musical tastes, and their playlists are filled with his favorites to this day.
Doug was an avid sports fan who loved sharing game days with his family. From teaching football, golf, softball and backyard games to watching Raiders and Bears football and March Madness, he created many cherished memories. He was known for his pristine lawn, his love of history, and his culinary skills—especially grilling and smoking the best meats. A pilot both in and out of the plane, Doug’s adventurous spirit knew no bounds.
He adored his wife Cheryl whom he cherished as his partner and best friend. Doug and Cheryl loved to take road trips to play golf, visit breweries, explore lighthouses and watch sunsets together.
More than anything, Doug was a family-first man. He cherished his time with his loved ones, whether it was road trips, sporting events, or simply spending quality moments together. His grandchildren, Jace and Ember, were his pride and joy—his "people.”
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cheryl Stewart; children, Logan Stewart, Kaitlyn (Caleb) Pozorski, Connor Stewart, Ashley Szymanski, Noah (Shelby Macuga) Szymanski, and Kendall Stewart; grandchildren, Jace and Ember Pozorski; his brother, Christopher (Generose) Stewart; and his mother, June Eileen Stewart.
Doug was preceded in death by his father Kendall Ray Stewart.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1 p.m., with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN.
