Gordon Bates Smith, 96, was “promoted to glory” on Sunday October 2, 2022, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by family. Born February 12, 1926, to Salvation Army officers, Cols. Harold and Mildred Smith, Gordon was born again January 1, 1948, and married to Evangeline Ruth Smith on May 8, 1948. They have three children, Julia (Eldon) Njus of Mims, Florida, Juanita Smith of Fort Wayne, and Thomas (Sherie) Smith of Silverton, Oregon. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Shoaff Park Baptist Church, 6651 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
