Jeanne Guthrie Beights

JEANNE (GUTHRIE) BEIGHTS, 89, of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at her residence. Born July 21, 1922, in Indianapolis, she was a daughter of the late Earl B. and Doris T. (Kirkman) Guthrie. She was a voice major at Indiana University School of Music and taught voice lessons for several years. She also read for the Northeast Indiana Radio Reading Service and she hosted a classical music program on WBNI-FM radio. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Adult Choir and Ladies Aid, both at the church; and sang with the Concordia Senior College Cantata Singers. Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Dr. Raymond S.; children, Raymond Michael (Joellen) Beights, Stephen Robert (Nancy) Beights, Anne Elizabeth (Charles) Schwersky, Bettina Louise Burns, Martha Jeanne (Dr. Stanley) Young, and Jennifer Joy (Mark) Van Cleave; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Beights; and son-in-law, Gene Burns. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Richard Maassel officiating. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Preferred memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Music Department, Concordia Theological Seminary Music Department or Worship for Shut-Ins.
