She was born on July 1, 1971, and graduated from Northrop High School in 1990. Jennifer married the love of her life, Brian Schlatter, on March 13, 1993, and together they built a life filled with family, friendship, laughter, sports, and countless memories.
Jennifer dedicated 36 years of her working life to North American Van Lines, where she worked as an International Cash Processor. She retired on July 3, 2026, after a long and dedicated career.
Jennifer was happiest when she was surrounded by the people she loved. She had a special love for the sun, whether she was relaxing by the pool or enjoying the sand. She loved being in charge and planning events, and she had a remarkable talent for bringing people together. She was a great event planner and took great pride in making sure every detail was just right.
Jennifer also loved feeding people. If you came to her home or to one of her gatherings, chances were you would not leave hungry. She showed her love through food, hospitality, and making everyone feel welcome. She also had a knack for finding a bargain and loved shopping for herself, her family, and her friends.
Sports were a lifelong part of Jennifer's life. In her younger years, she played fastpitch softball for Northrop High School. She later played women's and co-ed slow-pitch softball for more than 20 years. Her love of athletics continued well beyond her own playing days. She proudly supported her children, as well as the children of her friends and family, cheering them on and showing up for their athletic endeavors whenever she could.
Jennifer's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 33 years, Brian Schlatter; her daughter, Whitney (Daniel) Torres; her son, Collin Schlatter; and her grandson, Grayson Torres. She is also survived by her father, Roy Wells; her mother, Roxanna (Waters) Wells; her sister, Theresa (Wells) Schreiber; and her brother, Chad Wells.
Jennifer will be remembered for her big heart, her generosity, her love of family and friends, her competitive spirit, her ability to plan an unforgettable gathering, and her determination to make sure everyone around her was taken care of. She had a way of making people feel included, loved, and well-fed, and she almost always had a smile on her face. That smile reflected the warmth and joy she brought to the people around her and will be one of the many things her family and friends will carry with them. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46835.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with calling one hour prior, also at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
