He served in the Indiana National Guard in Fort Wayne. Jerry worked at International Harvester/Navistar for 45 years until his retirement. He enjoyed snowmobiling until he was 80 years old. Jerry walked the Mackinac Bridge 12 times with his grandsons. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, carpentry work, and was an avid Purdue fan. "BOILER UP." Jerry was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Angola Snowmobile club, and Izaak Walton League. Jerry was most proud of his five grandsons and loved watching their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Springer; children Chad (Betsy) Springer and Chris (Jill) Springer; grandchildren, Grant, Cal (Jessica), Tate, Max and Cooper Springer.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Black.
Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 E State Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815, with calling one hour prior.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46835.
The burial will be in Leo Memorial Cemetery, Leo, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Northeast Indiana Honor Flight.
