John William Bartle

John William Bartle, 84, of Grabill, departed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Parkview Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Born on January 5, 1932 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late David and Lulu (Putt) Bartle. After graduating from Harlan High School, he was employed with Pepsi-Cola for 38 years, until he retired and started performing magic shows for Christian groups and retirement communities while wintering in Texas. He was active in scouting and Toastmasters, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He is survived by his wife of 65 ½ years, Barbara (Wegman) Bartle of Grabill; sons, Gary (Erin) Bartle and Michael Bartle; daughters, Sherry McCoy and Wendy (Mark ) Burke; five grandchildren; and sister, Eileen Shidler. He was also preceded in death by his son, Scott Bartle; brother, David Bartle; and sisters, Geraldine Sauder and Dorothy Langley. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11:00am at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial at Leo Memorial Cemetery, Leo, Ind. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
