Rev. John M. Tews Sr.

Rev. John M. Tews, Sr., 100, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014. Born June 22, 1913 in Ray, North Dakota, he was the son of the late Theodore and Alice Tews of Carroll, Iowa. He was chaplain at Lutheran Hospital until 1973 and then at Lutheran Life Villages until 1979. Previously he served as pastor at three Iowa parishes from 1938 until 1964. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Irene (Weyer); son David; and brother Alwin. Surviving is a sister Mildred of Carroll, IA; and sons John Jr. (Connie) of Bayard, IA; Steven of Grand Rapids, MI; Daniel (Christine) of Aurora, IL; Joel (Bryanannette) of Praireville, LA; and Nathan (Don) of Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is 1:30 p.m.Monday, February 3, 2014 at the chapel of Lutheran Life Villages, 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne. Visitation is at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
