Joyce Ann Myers, 86, of Fort Wayne passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Lutheran Life Village in Fort Wayne. Joyce was born on January 22, 1938, in Coldwater, Michigan to Louis and Mary (Re) Prestidge. She graduated from St. Charles High School and enjoyed a career as a phone operator. She met M. Allen Myers at a dance while visiting relatives. She cleverly gave him a different name because she "... didn’t know him very well!” After several dates she realized he was not so bad and had to reveal that she gave him a made-up name. He was enthralled by her, and he took it all in stride and, as he said, “I saw her across the room and knew she was the one. I didn’t care what her name was, I just wanted to be with her.” They got married on June 8, 1957, and were married for 65 years before he passed away January 25, 2023. She raised a rambunctious batch of 4 kids, and as they grew up and began to explore life outside the home, she worked at Roger’s Market Deli as well as a few other delis around the area. Subsequently, she began her role as a much beloved Grandma to 10 grandchildren who often raided pantries and enjoyed her amazing desserts during the frequent family gatherings at her and Allen’s home or lake cottage. Everyone was family when they walked through her doors, and she was thoughtful and kind in welcoming newcomers into the fold. Family and friends were everything to her and she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, dear friends, including many from her high school, and cousins along with many other loved ones. She was known to have a sarcastic, witty sense of humor always equipped with a one-liner and famous sayings such as, “Oh my sainted eyebrow!” Her home was often filled with laughter and many good times, and she loved every minute of it. Always on top of it, she owned a smartphone before her son Jeff and also some grandchildren. She texted like a teenager and, with a spirited competitive spirit, often crushed her family doing Wordle. She will be missed dearly by all and her family hopes that all those who loved her will carry her legacy on through cherishing their own loved ones and a sarcastic quip or two, perhaps followed with a knowing shrug. She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Brenda White) Myers and Scott (Jodi) Myers; 10 grandchildren, Ashley (Alessia Fitz-Gibbon) Myers, Andrea (Eric Johnson) Myers, Travis Myers, Jenna (Kory) Kuhn, Joey (Desiree) Myers, Alex Myers, Emilia (Carlos) Diaz, Erika (Samuel) Kinsel, Tony Rodriguez, Benito Rodriguez and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Rick Myers and a daughter, Penny Rodriguez. The family will have a Celebration of Life celebration in Joyce's honor on Saturday, December 28th from 1-5 p.m. at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835. Inurnment will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed in her name to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
